For anyone who believes that mass working from home is an emergency fad that will pass once the pandemic ends, Adzuna, the online jobs search engine, has three words: head of remote.

Companies are so convinced that working from home is here to stay that they are creating management roles to look after staff who never see the office.

Facebook recently hired a “remote work, director”, the social platforms Twitter and Quora have advertised for similar posts and the software company GitLab, where all staff have been working from home since 2011, has a longstanding “head of remote”.
